Introduction
Architecture Design II
Architecture Design II introduces the principles and methods of analysis, abstraction, and synthesis in design thinking that are common to many design fields, including building and architecture. The key emphasis of the studio is “User and Context”, which investigates the relationship between user and natural environment. In this studio, students will undertake a series of studio-based exercises; firstly, an investigation of the architectural spaces and construction through precedent studies; and secondly, an exploration of form and space through architectural conceptualisation. Finally, students will design a small freestanding structure that meets user requirements and engages with the site context.

WORKS
PROJECT 1
This assignment allows us to understand on how to diagram architectural principles through the process of abstracting and simplifying and idea so that it can be easily understood. We are required to investigate how architecture and spaces are created from establishing design intentions and the making of architectural elements. The idea of using pure and diagrammatic models to express the architectural idea would be in-cooperated into this assignment.
PROJECT 2
Our main task in this assignment is to generate and craft Tropical Rainforest Discovery Platform that has spatial experience, with a maximum volume of 125 m3. We are required to use the architectural principles from the first assignment; to explore conceptual and operational procedures in order to produce a significant gesture of architectural spaces. The architectural principles that we have selected will need us to define them. We have to explore the potential meanings and implications of this architectural principles in the sense that it will inform two areas: generating forms and crafting spaces.
PROJECT 3
Students are required to design a Tropical Wildlife Discovery Unit at Bukit Jalil Recreational Park. An Observation Unit denotes ‘a structure at the tropical forest to observe its’ wildlife’. This Discovery Unit should also include tropical rainforest discovery area, resting, discussing and such within the built-up space of maximum. The structure should be within the built-up space of maximum 100sqm and be able to accommodate 2 people, including myself and a discovery partner comfortably in a short spend of time (2-3 days).
SELF REFLECTION
What activities make this semester memorable are having physical classes and site visits. Designing a structure with the theories of diagramming is definitely a new thing for me to learn, yet I enjoyed it very much. I learned that diagramming is really helpful for someone to look into my design as it helps the design to convey the message in a simpler way. Furthermore, with the materiality and site context given in the assignments, it demonstrated how the architecture are applied in real life. Overall, I like how we learn from analysing a case study to designing a structure at a real site, it allows us to learn how the design phase really is.
