Introduction

Design Communication

The module introduces fundamental skills for the appropriate communication of architectural design. It engages different means of visualization and expression of space and spatial ideas through architectural drawings to prepare students with the skills required in design projects. These skills are taught through a series of freehand and constructed drawing held both outdoors and in the studio. The teaching and learning approach for the module will be lecture and tutorial based, with students engaging with blended learning experience during the lecture and tutorial session. The outline mode of delivery is blended learning approach, proportion of face-to-face and use of Online learning (TIMES). The module assessment will be an individual assignment involving a series of summative assessment.

PROJECT 1

In project 1, we have the chance to develop the skills that we learned from the previous tutorials into this project, which requires us to showcase our freehand drawing skills through combination of self-expression, natural and man-made object drawing, architectural lettering, tonal values and rendering. Other than that, we also have to illustrate the skills in choosing the right colouring medium and colour palette to capture the essence of the drawings.

PROJECT 2

This project gives us the opportunity to learn on how to draw orthographic drawings and also a set of skilled drawings which are axonometric drawings and perspective drawings. We are to focus on the manual project methods such as architectural conventions, symbols and line quality.

PROJECT 3

In project 3, we are to align this project with ADI final project, which are to produce scaled models and presentation boards that includes final drawings. With this setting, we get to focus on our drawings and models to produce a quality work.
