Introduction

PROJECT 1

Contextual Study Sketch Journal of a Traditional Street

This project aimed to introduce the knowledge of designated traditional streets through understanding of tangible and intangible components of the street. We are required to capture all the physical and non-physical contexts of the selected street, Jalan Tun HS Lee, into a manually drawn sketch journal by conducting a physical site visit and various forms of references.

SELF REFLECTION

By doing this assignment, I understand the importance of observing and analyzing tangible and intangible components of a street as a in-depth knowledge for the future contextual study. This assignment has helped me to improve my manual sketching and also the communication of thoughts and observations through words and visuals.

Not only these, I also learned to appreciate the historical background and the story behind the street that these make the street unique. Thus, the passing on of the knowledge should be emphasized on Gen Z nowadays.

PROJECT 2

Poster and Seminar-Contemporary Issues in Asian Architecture

This assignment requires us to form a group of 7 to further expanding the specific scope of study from Project 1 by focusing on one topic / issue,  Sustainable Heritage Tourism. We are then resolve the issue by studying the research question that related to the condition of the street. The analysis framework is created and compiled into an infographic poster.

SELF REFLECTION

This assignment taught me the value of teamwork despite all of the hardship that we've gone through and the heavy loads of assignments. It allows me to penetrate my knowledge and think thoroughly to resolve the challenges regarding the topic of sustainable heritage tourism on Jalan Tun HS Lee. By researching the associated case studies, I understand that it is not the problem of the location, but it is the mindset of the people itself whether if they wants to preserve and conserve the place identity in terms of tangible and intangible components.
