TOY DESIGN: PLAY AND THE ACT OF PLAY

In this assignment, we have to design a toy based on the assigned body part using the restricted material.

EMPATHY

In empathy, we are required to present the questions, research and investigation on play and the act of play, toy or object of play, materials and resources, general understanding of the assigned body part and its movement by using visual notes, sketches, drawings, diagrams etc.

DEFINE

In define, we have to provide the aim, narratives, overall concept, and the understanding of the materials. Furthermore, we have to provide or state initial design ideas of the toy or object of play based on the assigned body part and its movements and the materials.

IDEATION

In Ideation, we are required to propose a minimum of three design ideas of toy or the object of play in details using sketches, drawings, diagrams, visualizations, and etc. Design ideas should include the narratives and concept, materials selected to respond and react to the assigned body part and of its movements. After that, we have to select one final idea to be developed in prototyping.

PROTOTYPE

Prototype is the execution of idea, to develop and create or build the toy or the object of play using the materials selected. The prototyping and development of the built toy should involvemodifications, amendments, and improvements.

EMPATHY

I have took about 2 weeks to extract the information that I've searched into the slides.

DEFINE

I have used 2 weeks to brainstorm the materials I have in my house and also the functions of my toy.

IDEATION

I've used 1 week time to think about the design of my toy and labeled the criteria into the slides.

PROTOTYPE

I have took around 2 weeks to build up and modify my toy to make sure it's fun and presentable.

PRESENT

I have took few days of time to shot my video that and design a poster related to my toy.

DISCIPLINE SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE

Over the course of assignment, I have learned on how to build my toy step by step by following the phases that are required in this module. Other than that, I have also learned about the meaning of play from a child's view and its benefits.

LIFELONG LEARNING

In this assignment, I was able to learn independently without any urging from tutor in order to complete the assignment before the due date. Moreover, I have finish my task according to the timeline I set for myself in order to show the progress during tutorial class.

THINKING AND PROBLEM SOLVING SKILLS

This assignment allows me to enhance my thinking and problem solving skills when I generate the ideas for my toy, Instead of thinking about the play or the act of play, I started off with the materials I could find in my house. 

DIGITAL LEGACY

I was glad that I could complete this assignment using some editing application such as Sketchbook and Photoshop. This provides me the opportunity to learn and test out the features that will be helpful for my future career before I go architecture course in degree.
