VIRTUAL TRIP TO BHUTAN
5 THINGS TO LEARN IN BHUTAN VIRTUAL VISIT IN TERMS OF THE ENVIRONMENTAL ASPECT
BHUTAN IS THE WORLD'S ONLY CARBON-NEGATIVE COUNTRY.
Entire country generates 2.2 millions tons of carbon dioxide, but forest sequester more than three times that amount. So Bhutan is net carbon sink, for more than 4 million tons of carbon dioxide each year.
In 2020, will be exporting enough electricity to offset 17 million tons of carbon dioxide.
The clean, green energy that they export, will offset 50million tons of carbon dioxide a year ( more than entire city of New York that generate in one year )
BHUTAN MADE THEIR PROMISE TO REMAIN CARBON NEUTRAL
Bhutan is in net carbon sink.
-providing free electricity to their rural farmers
-with free electricity, they will no longer have to use the firewood to cook their food
-investing in sustainable transport and subsidizing the purchase of electric vehicles
-subsidizing the cost of LED lights
-government is trying to go paperless
-cleaning up their country through Clean Bhutan, a national program.
-world records for planting the most trees per hour through Green Bhutan, another national program.
72% OF THE COUNTRY IS UNDER FOREST COVER
(over 60% of Bhutan's total land shall be maintained under forest cover for all time)
All that forest is pristine.
Bhutan is one of the few remaining global biodiversity hotspots in the world
Bhutan connect the protected area through a network of biological corridor
So that all the animals are free to roam throughout the country
Bhutan set aside resources to prevent hunting, poaching, mining and pollution in their parks
Bhutan set aside resources to help communities that live in parks to manage their forests to adapt climate change, and lead better lives while continuing to live in harmony with Mother Nature.
BHUTAN IS THE ONLY COUNTRY IN THE WORLD THAT BY ITS OWN CONSTITUTION PROTECTS ITS FORESTS.
Bhutan raise a transition fund from individual donors, corporations and institution
Bhutan use the transition fund to protect the nature, giving government time to increase the funding gradually until the end of the 15 years period.
ALMOST ALL THE COUNTRY'S ELECTRICITY COMES FROM HYDROPOWER
Bhutan export more of the renewable electricity that generate from fast-flowing river.
Clean energy that they export offsets about six million tons of carbon dioxide in their neighborhood.
DESCRIBE HOW CAN YOU PLAY A ROLE TO HELP IN IMPROVING OUR CONDITTION OF NATURE ENVRONMENT IN OUR TOWNSHIP/CITY/COUNTRY
CYCLE
1. Instead of waiting for your turn in traffic jam, we are encouraged to cycle to our destination in order to reduce the emission while getting stuck in traffic jam
REFERENCES
UTILISE REUSABLE BAG
2. Based on what Datuk Dr Ahmad Masrizal Muhammad, Deputy Minister of Environment and Water said, “This is in line with the implementation of the Malaysia Roadmap towards Zero Disposable Plastic 2018-2030, which aims to curb disposable plastic waste and move to other alternatives that are more environmentally friendly,” we have to use reusable bag instead of plastic bag to preserve the environment. Isn't this a brilliant and convenient way for us to take part in protecting the nature?
REPLANTING TREES
3. Considering to protect the nature by funding? Absolutely! There's a project which is replanting the trees held by Brother Cycling, and it is still ongoing now until 2026. The Bukit Piton Project was initiated by Brother Cycling, and it's to reforestation at Bukit Piton Forest Reserve, Borneo for the endangered orangutan and wildlife. How can we take action as one of the donors? You can just make your donation directly to the Brothers Cycling account! Any further information can refer to the weblink below.
