TASK

2nd assignment designed as a continuation from 1st assignment to introduce and identify the design principles of architecture and design in utilizing and creating order in an architectural composition and spatial arrangement. In a group of 4, students are required to produce a series of eight (8) smaller models of 10cm x 10 cm x 10cm each to apply the understanding of design principles. Upon completion of the series, students are then to combine different design principles to produce a 20cm x 20cm x 10cm HYBRID FINAL MODEL to explore various volumetric of form and space.

TASK 1

After the assignment brief, me and my teammates discussed and segregated our tasks. Each of us had to take 2 design principles and create a 10cm x 10cm x 10cm model based on our design principles. Task distribution:

Joe Yee - Rhythm, Contrast

Evonne - Movement, Unity

Wan Qi - Emphasis, Variety

Xin Yan - Balance, Harmony

TASK 2

After getting our design concept with sketches, we started to do mock-up model.

TASK 3

After commenting and criticizing our mock-up, we do some improvements and work on our small final model.

TASK 4

To complete the series, each of us have to create a 20cm x 20cm x 10cm hybrid model by combining the concept of our both design principles. The first step that we have to do is sketch out our ideas.

TASK 5

Move on to our next step which we had to do mock-up model for each combination.

TASK 6

The next part we had to do is make a final hybrid model.

Lastly, we had to combine our hybrid model into 20cm x 20cm x 20cm model. After that, we are required to compile our documents into pdf files.

Through this assignment, the TGCs I have acquired are:

DISCIPLINE SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE

In this assignment, I acquired this skill as I understood well what are the design principles and applied them onto my models. Other than that, I knew that scales and proportions are important in spatial design to create interesting spaces.

LIFELONG LEARNING

Throughout the whole assignment process, time management is important as we have to work on models as fast as we can so that we won't delay our group's progress. Besides that, I also can understood the advice given by my tutors and friends then I translate it and add more elements on my models.

Upon reflection, I would say that this assignment is another introduction to this module, but it needs more critical thinking, as we have to translate design principles into our models. Other than that, I found that design principles are interesting as we can use them into our models and it will create an amazing pattern.

COMMUNICATION SKILL

This assignment requires us to work in a group of 4. During the assignment timeline, I felt that groupwork is important as teammates can remind each other about the duration of tasks, and also provides ideas and comments on our models.
